Well attended and productive FotL meeting – good to see members and representatives of the skating community there. The council put up 2 employees who did their best to defend the council’s integrity over its blinkered insistence on treating the new skate park and its position as entirely separate from the overall design of the Level. After a barrage of criticism from all quarters, there was an overwhelming consensus of Friends of the Level at this meeting that the skaters should have their new skate park, at least as big as the present one as they’ve been promised, in the south end. Not what the council is pushing for. Looks like it now intends to keep consulting separate, smaller and smaller groups until it can present some figures showing that a majority of local residents want the skate park in the north end! With the kicker: rather than lose the Lottery funding. Democracy in action- you just can’t beat it!
Lively Friends of the Level meeting!
